So your friend is running a trip and you want to bring another friend. You reviewed the Friends page and asked your friend if you could invite them. They said no.
You're running a trip and your friend's friend wants to come, but you're having trouble convincing them that it's not a good idea.
Why?
Let's face it, there's a million and one reasons adding additional people to trips can cause problems or be undesirable. Some reasons are obvious: we only have 6 permits and 6 people already. Some less so.
The intended purpose of this page is to discuss/list the broad array of group dynamics issues that can occur when planning canyon trips. It's a work in progress, more contributions are welcome:
1. Adding another person would require another car, and the drive is already very long
2. Permits are at capacity
3. [Person] still hasn't learned [key technical skill]
4. There aren't enough experienced leaders coming to add more newbies to the trip at this time
5. [Person] doesn't have or aren't willing to get appropriate gear
6. [Person] hasn't been a productive contributor on previous trips
7. The car shuttle already makes the day long enough without having to do another lap to get the folks that can't fit in the car the first time around
8. [Person] isn't physically fit enough to make the trip go smoothly
9. Canyon [water, length, etc] conditions will be outside person's experience limit
10. [Person] was bad at being Friends last time
11. [Person] hasn't been canyoneering before and planned trips are too advanced
12. It's too late, and there are too many logistical issues to resolve to add another person
13. They're a flake
