Introduction[edit]

The only canyon route in Flores that has narrow walls and is shaped like a canyon gorge (the others are open streams with big wall rappels). If you like water parks with deep pools to jump into and sinewy narrows, this is the canyon for you. No doubt the funnest canyon on the island. 6 rappels plus 2 more if you are swimming out of the ocean.

Approach[edit]

Descent[edit]

The rocks are grippy even where they are covered in moss. There are several ideally shaped tobaggons but due to the lack of a slippery surface it is not possible to do so. In Sept. 2016 one canyoneer broke his leg in 3 places attempting to do so.

Exit[edit]

There are two options. Before the final rappel into the ocean, take the use trail up on the right. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the hiker trail and another 20 minutes back to the car. The other option is to rappel into the ocean and swim to the left for 500 meters to a small pebble beach. You will want to leave a shuttle car if doing the swim exit. Also, the sea must be calm. If the tides are working against you and you are not an efficient swimmer, you could get carried out to sea in the middle of the Atlantic with little hope of rescue.
