Introduction[edit]
Canyon walls are made of thin layers of rock which allows you to go safely through the canyon even in high water. There are 4 canyon parts seperated by easy walking in a broad and flat screebed. Most available descriptions only cover the lower two canyon-parts.
Approach[edit]
For the upper two part follow the road from Valmaor further into the valley until you reach a parking spot near an old lime kiln. Then follow the road down to the ford over the creek. Then its just 10min of walking in the creekbed until you reach the start of the first canyon.
The lower two part start at the soccer pitch near the village of Valmaor.
Descent[edit]
Maor 1: 12m rappel from chain on the right, then small tobogans and downclimbs in a narrow and deep canyon.
10 min of walking
Maor 2: 8m jump into a small pool (smaller jump or rappel possible from the left) then small jumps in narrow but not very high canyon. 5 min of walking to the soccer pitch
Maor 3: downclimb then jump in from the left, after that only downclimbs 3 min of walking
Maor 4: 12m rappel from either side of the weir, than a long and dark canyon with some small jumps
Exit[edit]
Option without shuttle. Beyond the second narrow pass and when the canyon walls lose height on the left bank, you will find a large stone block on the left in the riverbed. Just behind it there is an obvious path that climbs upwards in the forest and starts on the left. When we reach a steel cable that blocks our way, we continue along the cable parallel to it, always going upwards. Shortly after, you will enter the forest where you will find three cairns marking the way. At a given moment the path disappears into the forest. We can continue slightly to the left without passing the bed of a stream that flows into Val Maor and always upwards. You will reach a meadow with a house at the top of the slope. At the bottom, to the left of the meadow there is a track that will lead you to the main track and then to the road. Before reaching the main track there is a turning to the left, the track descends. According to the map, if we continue along this track we would come out, perhaps by a shorter way, also to the track. Untested path. From the time we leave Val Maor to the parking we have between 30 and 40 minutes of walking, (by the longest way).
Camino no testado.
