"Spectacular canyon. A few partner assists required the first person to make a difficult squeeze or downclimb, but aside from that no special challenge

Introduction[edit]

Approach[edit]

The map route lines are only approximate drawn from another map. Way-points should be pretty close as multiple sources agree. The shortcut approach cuts out a lot of time if your basecamp is in the Neon-Choprock area. It makes Baker canyon a reasonable addition for groups camping further up river. From the bottom of the shortcut approach to the head of West Baker, it takes about one hour.

Descent[edit]

The west fork can be done with as little as two rappels up to 70 feet, though most will likely do more. With high water levels, 3 of the rappels can be jumped. In high water the in-canyon time can be two hours or less if rappels are jumped. The canyon does not contain any keeper potholes or unusual obstacles and could be considered quite beginner friendly, though conditions can always change.
