Introduction[edit]
Note: if following the canyon proper, the largest pitch is 70m.
Approach[edit]
suburb of Teresitas; from there we walked along the dirt road towards the information centre. There are two options to reach the dropin point, the route to the left called "Aguajes" travels clockwise up to the canyon, whilst the the route to the right traveling counter clockwise is called "Burreros". Emanuel took me on the Aguajes route which is supposed to be longer but more interesting with some short canyon sections (and some sport climbing routes). The route was well established but sometimes a little hard to follow. We encountered many painted arrows, flagging tape and the occasional parks sign. Getting higher up into the mountain you join more travelled hiking trails, and some campsites. I was happy to drink from the stream (I was assured that it doesn't have to be filtered). There were a couple of turns before we reached the turnoff to drop into our drainage. It was a short walk down the creek with some short downclimbes before we reached the first pitch.
Descent[edit]
The canyon was bolted despite many well located natural anchors. There are 4-6 pitches in the canyon:
P1 xx CL 15m
P2 (optional) 5m
P3 xx CR 25m
P4 xx CL 20m. Some downclimbing follows. Can extend, or re-anchor off a tree if needed. We simul-rapped the first section.
P5a xx CL 70m. "El Ventana" (the window). I descended on our 60m. It didn't reach and I had to ascend.
P5b/P6 xx/xx both 25m. Crossing over to these alternate drops you pass a point called the Mirado which offers great views of the folded bedding planes. Both these pitches are quite chossy.
Exit[edit]
From the bottom the trail descends down passing many climbing routes and boulder problems. It soon joins the trail from the información centre.
