Introduction[edit]
The NW fork of Deer_Creek_Canyon_(Southwest_Escalante), which is more technical than the main fork. The head of the NW fork has 3 branches.
Approach[edit]
Either: From Oil Well Hill to the south, or, Johnson Hole Saddle & the Paria to the east.
Descent[edit]
Upper branches of NW fork:
- North / East branch = has a short rappel
- Middle branch = walk
- South / West branch = ~20m rappel, as described in Michael Kelsey's Paria guidebook
Lower NW Fork:
- Several good downclimbs, beginners would need a rope at 2 or 3. No anchors present (or left) in May 2022.
- May 2022 - half-way through the lower section was a small keeper pothole about 3m deep that would be a challenge to exit solo without aid (pot shot, possibly pack toss). It was an easy partner assist, but not mentioned in Kelsey's guide, so Kelsey probably swam across it.
