Description[edit]
The only fee for this trip is a $45/person non-refundable fee which includes 4 nights of camping! (If you cancel anytime after you sign-up, you forfeit your $45 as a cancellation fee.) Because canyoneering is inherently dangerous, this event is ONLY open to people with professional canyoneering training, preferably from Uber Adventures, or significant canyoneering experience! (if you're not sure if your training or experience qualify, give me a shout before you sign-up!) Because this event is SOCIAL, we will rely on experienced people to allow rookies in their groups while descending some awesome, wet & friendly canyons! If you want to go to this event ... get the training and become a competent participant and valuable team member!
CAMPING: I'll reserve a large group campsite near Globe, AZ. It will hold 100 people (though fewer cars)! This campsite has water, fire rings, covered pavilion/picnic area, restrooms and showers! The GPS point for the entrance to the Grapevine Group Campsite near Roosevelt, AZ is: 33.639657, -111.049206.
CARPOOL! DO IT! It's 7 hours away from LA. Two people to a car would be reasonable when you consider camping gear, coolers, canyoneering gear and the fact that there will likely be car shuttles required for some of the canyons.
You're also responsible for your own travel, and your own meals ... except!... Let's have a mexican-style potluck on Saturday evening at 6:30pm. Keep the contributions of a Mexican theme! Let's make it a party, as well as a meal! So, bring things like chips, salsa, beans, rice, flan, Dos Equis, Corona .. etc! Don't forget to bring a means to heat-and-serve-and clean your dish. Also, you are responsible to provide your own plate, cup, spoon, knife, fork .. etc.
Here are some canyons. MOST of these canyons will require a wetsuit as the water will be pretty dang cold, even if the weather is not! (think melting snow runoff) I recommend a full 4/3 and wear a rain shell over the top to keep the wind from evaporative-cooling you. (Leaders: PLEASE DON'T POST YOUR PLANNED CANYONS ON HERE, but keep me in the loop of your plans! We will have sign-up sheets at the campsite.)
