Introduction[edit]

A unique canyon for Brisbane, high walls in a soft volcanic conglomerate with ferns littering the sides of the canyon. The main attraction of the canyon is the 28m pitch.

Approach[edit]

Two extra 7m pitches can be added by entering the creek from the ship-stern track.

Descent[edit]

All natural anchors in the canyon. Make sure your well versed in ghosting techniques and natural anchor building! There are points without any easy anchor options.

Caution should be exercised on the pull down here at the 28m pitch - fiddlesticks are not suitable due to a chockstone below the tree used as an anchor. Ropes have got stuck here because of this! Even on a standard pulldown, one must be careful the rope doesn’t catch on the log at the base of the pitch (pictured left). Many crayfish harbor in pools below this pitch so exercise caution.

  • tree which wants to get your rope stuck
  • A few unpleasant rough slides exist in the canyon. It should be noted that despite its small size, it is inescapable once you enter via the main 28m pitch.

    Background[edit]

The canyon was named in reference to the fact: 1. The canyon was run twice to retrieve a fiddlestick which got caught on the 28m pitch 2. When climbing a shortcut to retrieve the fiddlestick, a bit of tuff broke and I nearly fell to my death 3. After retrieving the fiddle stick on a second attempt, the pull cord got stuck on the top of the log 4. Then the abseil line got stuck on the top of the log What a pain!
