Character
Most Los Angeles canyons are predominantly granite. The rock can be sharp and crumbly at times, but is often more solid at waterfall pour-overs. Canyons walls can be steep, but are rarely sheer. Most canyons have many trees that may be used as anchors. Many canyons have some water, but few if any present true class C challenges during most of the year.
Closure
Parts of the Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriel Mountains remain closed following the 2009 Station Fire.
