Introduction[edit]

Approach[edit]

  • 1 - up the ridge between Blarney and Shillelagh, then around the top of Shillelagh's east fork.
  • 2 - after descending Shillelagh east fork, climb out west, then up and around the west side to the head of the west fork.

Descent[edit]

  • R1: 25 feet - Anchored from a boulder about 12 feet back from the edge. The rap is a little awkward due to it being overhanging.
  • R2: 70 feet - Anchored from a large rock in a pothole. If you extend the webbing to protect the sandstone (which you should) the rap should only be about 60 feet.
  • Then a few down-climbs, for which some canyoneers may prefer the safety of a rope.

Exit[edit]

Walk down the wash to Highway 95.

Red tape[edit]

BLM land.

Background[edit]

Named as part of the Irish theme in the area. Shillelagh is the Gaelic name for a walking stick.
