Has user description  The Southwest region of Montana contains a multitude of mountain ranges and contains the largest landmass above 10,000ft in the lower 48. These ranges include the Absaroka-Beartooths, Crazys, Tobacco Roots, Madisons, Gallatins, Black mountains, Pioneers, Blacktail, Gravelly, Beaverhead, Snowcrest, Rubys, Tendoys, Highlands and the Pioneers (which divide the Southwest region from the Midwest region). All of these mountains range from little to extreme terrain verity. For instance, the valley floors of the Absaroka-Beartooths sit around 4,000, when the tops of their mountains are above 12,000ft. Vertical changes can be upwards of 8,000 in less than a mile. In relation the Gravellys top out in the 10,000s yet are characterized as rolling hills. Canyoning in this section of Montana can range dramatically, prepare accordingly!
