I started exploring Death Valley in 1998, among my first trips out was leading a 30 day desert backpacking trip with the Athenian School traversing many of the ranges in death valley. During the same time I was leading mountaineering trips in the High Sierra, and rock climbing camps and desert trekking courses in Joshua Tree. I kept finding my way back to Saline Valley drawn initially to the hot springs but always curious to explore the surrounding mountains. I took an intro course to canyoneering in North Wash Utah in the fall of 2024 and in retrospect canyoneering seemed an obvious fit.
