How to improvise a harness with webbing

Waist Harness

Useful as emergency harness or super-lightweight harness:

  • Use 15' or more of webbing
  • Follow illustrations to tie
  • Finish off with Square knot, then backup each side with Overhand knot.

  • NOTE: Intertwining the waist loops makes for a MUCH more comfortable waist harness (by Mark Kenzie, Cave Search & Rescue Team)

    Useful as emergency harness or super-lightweight harness:

    • Use 15' or more of webbing
    • Follow illustrations to tie
    • Finish off with Square knot, then backup each side with Overhand knot.

  • Full Body Harness

    Useful to raise/lower unconscious victims:

    • Use 20' webbing tied in large loop with water knot
    • webbing tucked under the neck, arms and legs
    • bring section between the feet up onto the chest
    • Push webbing below the arms through the chest loop
    • Clip carabiner to join the two arm loops and the chest loop
