Introduction[edit]
Wild Horse Window can be done as an easy, short hike to the top and/or bottom of the arch. Most hikers will likely just visit the bottom of the arch though. Alternatively, Wild Horse Window can be rappelled and it is often done as a simul-rap.
Approach[edit]
Descent[edit]
Wild Horse Window is known as a one-drop wonder, meaning there is only one true rappel.
Rappels[edit]
- R1: 115 feet anchored from rocks. The rappel is free-hanging, starting above a cavernous alcove and passing through a large, round opening in its ceiling—the Wild Horse Window before dropping you into the alcove below.
Note on Rope Pulling[edit]
Because it is very easy to hike back up to the top it is strongly recommended to retrieve ropes by hiking back to the top and dropping them rather than by pulling the ropes down as is standard in canyoneering. Dropping the ropes, rather than pulling them, will help prevent rope groves from forming on this fantastic arch.
