Introduction[edit]
This archeological zone is situated in a horseshoe bend of the Usumacinta river, located in a very strategic hill that dominates the river and jungle, and is only accesible by boat from the border town of Frontera Corozal.
Frontera Corozal can serve as a base to visit the area or to cross the border into Guatemala on the oposite side of the river. There are modest hotels and some good restaurants.
Approach[edit]
To reach the site you need to depart Palenque early in the morning by a nicely paved road and reach the town of Frontera Corozal (aka Frontera Echeverria) and take a fast boat for a one hour trip (each way).
There are tours from Palenque (usually paired with Bonampak, including transportation). These are easy to book in Palenque even the day before (and will save you a small amount of money vs. booking online). It's likely cheaper to drive yourself and arrange the boat ride form Frontera, but you will need decent Spanish to accomplish this.
