Introduction[edit]
a lot of hiking for not much canyon. some beautiful prismatic basalt at the base of the 2nd rap. the big rappel has some very loose material and is quite risky.
Approach[edit]
from the cuesta colorado parking, cross the river beach drainage and topo around until you get to the 20K steps drainage. you can drop in at the cave or further up for some mini-narrows (and more boulder-hopping).
Descent[edit]
scramble down, bypassing obstacles or downclimbing them as desired. R1 - 85' from a slung basalt feature RDC. free-hanging after the first 10'. this rappel has lots of loose material on the wall. followed right away by: R2 - 35' from one of several boulders. this can be bypassed RDC but the slope is loose and it's easier to just rappel.
Exit[edit]
make your way along the more level benches near the river till you get to the cuesta colorado trail (marked by a post) which takes you back up to your vehicle.
