Introduction[edit]
One of the only decent canyons on Gran Canaria. Probably not worth bringing your canyoneering gear to the island just for this one, but if you have rope and a harness, it's worth doing. Water in spring can be very cold. If done outside of spring, the few pools will still likely have water, with at least one mandatory swim.
Approach[edit]
The road to the canyon is rough. A low-clearance passenger car will not make it any farther than the point on the GPS track above marked 'Parking'.
Follow the GPS track from the parking area to the slope. Go down the steep slope. While there may be some loose rocks, you should not be on any cliffs or any exposed area. Once on the canyon bottom, walk a few minutes downcanyon until arriving at the first pool, which starts the canyon.
Descent[edit]
Once in the canyon, you'll quickly encounter small pools and four optional rappels up to 4 meters off of bolts. If flowing, enjoy the water. If not flowing, there will be at least one mandatory swim, even after months without rain.
After a picturesque pool, you'll quickly reach the big rappel. Downclimb into a large pool, and on the lip of the pool you will have to rig the final rappel off bolts on the left. The rappel is about 35 meters. All too soon, the canyon ends.
Exit[edit]
From the final, big rappel, walk 20 minutes down canyon and exit up gully on canyon right. From the gully, use your GPS to navigate pack to the car. There is no marked trail, but no bushwhacking either.
Red tape[edit]
No permits required, but the road to the canyon is private land. Please kindly ask the owners for permission to cross their land. They close the gate at dark, so make sure you are out on time.
