Introduction

This is a simple route down a stream that finishes in a rappel down a waterfall that tourists frequently hike to. The route is not a slot, and mostly unremarkable. Even after heavy, heavy rains, the canyon only has a little bit of flowing water. In dry periods, this canyon is not worth doing. Car shuttle required.

Approach

From the parking area, walk up the dirt road for several minutes. After passing a hut in a grove of trees, turn right and head downslope. Use the GPS track on this page for guidance. You'll have to cross a field of crops, and then bushwhack into the forest. Once inside, the forest is not too thick. Stay in the ravine, and you'll quickly arrive at the anchor for the first rappel.

  • Cut into the forest, it will look like this
  • Once inside the forest, it becomes a ravine
  • Descent

Bolts on the left mark the first rappel. There are several smaller rappels after this one, all on slippery rock.

  • Bolts on the first rappel
  • One of the early rappels
  • All rappels have great anchors. Should rappels someday disappear, there is plenty of material around each rappel to tie an anchor with webbing.

  • A small rappel
  • Another smaller rappel
  • Eventually you will reach two larger rappels, one of which you'll have to rig a traverse line to access it.

  • A nicer rappel
  • This rappel requires rigging an easy traverse line at the top
  • When you reach the final waterfall - which is obvious because there is a trail, likely with some tourists, at the bottom - cut left into the forest to go to a better waterfall which is a better rappel. This rappel will still drop you into the same pool. The cut across to this falls only takes a minute. Climb up briefly, and then handline or rappel down the other side to the stream and the anchors. The final rappel is the banner image on this page.

  • Cut left into the forest
  • A short handline or rappel to access the final rappel
  • After this rappel, the canyon ends.

    Exit

Follow the obvious tourist trail for 15 minutes back to your lower shuttle vehicle.

  • The easy-to-follow exit trail
  • Red tape

    No red tape.
