Introduction[edit]
completed 2-11-16 by Scott Swaney and Aysel Gezik. looking or new canyons. The upper two drops are together and done in two stages. The overall wall drop here is 400'to 500' high. Very spectacular drop and continues down into a short cool narrow section. The upper 330' rappel is also over a large overhanging section, making it a very airy drop.
Approach[edit]
Descent[edit]
The First trip 2-11-16, we carried a 330' rope, and a 200' pull rope. And had some extra webbing /slings if needed to add to the pull line. At the anchor the 330' was short and hanging on the wall about 30 feet from a ledge. But you could down climb it with exposure. The 200' pull line was hanging in space in the overhanging section. I had to hold on to it was I went down, and when I got to it, I started adding webbing and slings tied together to get another hundred plus feet added to extend it down to the down-climbable section. A mistake by not hanging long enough ropes to do this properly. It was a tough pull to get the ropes to drop. From that ledge we hand to rig another anchor to continue on down another 150 feet to the base of the drop.
On a 2nd trip to this canyon 4-29-17, we carried a 660' rope to be able to handle the big rappel in a easier manner. No problem. WE send everyone down rappelling the entire 450' wall section. Because of the ledge that could hang up a falling rope, I went last and used the 2nd stage rappel anchor to make sure we could get our ropes down successfully with a hang-up. So there are two options here of bringing a long rope to do 450' in single rappel (and pull the ropes down from the bottom), or secondly, set up a 2-stage rappel of 330' with an additional 150' rappel by using the ledge system partway down the wall.
