Extract from Canyons Near Sydney guide book by Rick Jamieson:

Grade: 5 (difficult). Time: 1 day for the upper section of the creek. Two 50 m ropes needed. You can abseil through the waterfalls, or else avoid them and keep dry. From the Dance Floor Cave at Kanangra walk south down the gully. After 1 hour there is a junction with a creek on the right. Now there are two abseils before First Ascent Creek. The main drops are in a group of four. The last waterfall can be avoided by walking around on the right. There is a good exit ridge on the left at OGR 334334 (Yerranderie map). At the cliffline at the top go right to meet the Gingra track - or climb a ridge up to Cottage Rock. The lower, flatter part of Arabanoo Creek is called Arabanoo Canyon, and has some swimming (and nettles).

Trip reports and media[edit]

Background[edit]

The creek was named by Myles Dunphy, in honour of Arabanoo - the first Aboriginal person to live among Europeans, having been abducted on New Year's Eve, 1788, in order to facilitate communication and relations between the aboriginal people and the Europeans.
