Introduction

Located just outside Vernal, the Ashley Gorge Via Ferrata is a fun and unforgettable way to experience Utah’s canyon country. Built into the cliffs of Ashley Gorge, this adventure lets you safely move across rock faces, cross suspension bridges, and take in incredible views high above the canyon floor for those that know what they are doing. If you are new or don't have the appropriate gear you can hire a guide and many are available in the Vernal area

Approach

The approach hike to the Via Ferrata is short, scenic, and easy to moderate. The trail winds up through classic eastern Utah scenery, it is the least scenic section of the trip.

Descent

The route offers a variety of terrain and difficulty, with sections ranging from beginner-friendly climbing to more exposed and athletic moves. Along the way, climbers cross features like sky bridges, vertical walls, narrow ledges, and scenic overlooks high above the canyon floor. The full experience typically takes 3-5 hours depending on the route you choose, with multiple options for both shorter and longer adventures. The course is rated approximately 2B to 4C on the Fletcher/Smith via ferrata scale, making it suitable for adventurous beginners as well as experienced climbers looking for a challenge.

Exit

You can choose one of two via ferrata exits (refer to map linked below). Route A offers the easiest and most straightforward ascent, while Route D provides a more exposed, vertical finish for those looking for an extra challenge. Choosing Route D also shortens the hike back slightly.
