Introduction[edit]
A deep gully below the spectacular East face of Mount Barney
Approach[edit]
Park at Yellowpinch then up SouthEast ridge to the climbers bivvy area at about 1160m elevation
Descent[edit]
- Down into the scrub towards the East face, find a 30m abseil.
- Scramble boulders, logs and scree to get into the gully, with a further 30m abseil if needed.
- A big abseil will get you into the spooky top of the gully directly below the cliffs, still unexplored.
- All abseils are on tape anchors (including some seat belts used by the old timers, sadly we weren't the first).
- CL is Logans ridge. CR is Mid-SouthEast ridge. Or branches of these ridges. It might be possible to climb out onto either ridge.
- Party of 5 from bivvy back to carpark about 10hrs.
- Over 800m descent from bivvy to Logan River
Exit[edit]
Follow the gully down to the Logan River then go up or down river around the small peak to the carpark
