Background[edit]
On 3 Feb 1979, Laurie Bell led a Catholic Bushwalking Club trip (walk number 4501) to Tiger Snake canyon. There wasn't a track back then, so it was easy to get confused around the pagodas. The group ended-up in the wrong creek, which did roughly what they were expecting, but they eventually realised they were in the wrong creek when the spectacular lower section failed to materialise and they were confronted with a final large abseil off a cliff. The creek and canyon has been named Bell's Folly in honour of the fearless leader.
