Introduction[edit]

ADVISORY: There are archeological resources in the area. You play an essential role in ensuring the ethical treatment and protection of these irreplaceable sites.

Neat little canyon that is worth checking out when there's some flow as every rappel will be in the watercourse! There are two major options for this canyon: short and long. The technical part of the canyon ends at the confluence of the two upper forks; and since I imagine this is where most canyoneers will choose to turn back I have posted the map and stats that reflect that trip choice.

Approach[edit]

Head South from parking area along fence to find an obvious opening to walk through. From there head due East for approx 1 mile staying just South of the drainages dropping NE, traversing two drainages about 50' deep. Gaining a little elevation to the south will help you stay out of these. There will be a LARGE north facing prominence above the correct canyon. Head downstream until the bedrock starts!

Descent[edit]

R1: 20' tree RDC into a pool

R2: 60' rock pinch LDC (set 20' back)

R3: 45' knot chock LDC

R4: 30' slung boulder RDC

R5: 15' rock pinch RDC

R6: 70' knot chock on canyon left in obvious crack, directional. Two stage rappel. Limited anchor options at second stage (possible jump or downclimb). Potential pull challenges if pulling around corner from bottom of second stage.

Exit[edit]

Immediately (~150 feet past) following the last rappel, you will see a vertical face on canyon left with a break in it about two thirds of the way downstream. (shown on KML) This is a 4th class scramble to the rim with loose rock and many cacti.

Alternatively, you can continue a bit further down to the next confluence and exit up the left drainage.

If you choose the longer shuttle day, you'll encounter one more lackluster rappel, lots of downclimbs, and a LOT of beautiful geology. Not much in terms of technical stuff though. 4wd required for shuttle
