Introduction
Another fun, short canyon off Smith Mountain (hence the name) which involves little bushwhacking. No special challenges, just a fun canyon for an easy day. There may be a large amount of Poison Oak present in the canyon, but as I remember it was easily avoidable.
Approach
Hike up Smith's southeast ridge for .75mi, then drop into the canyon as shown on the map.
Descent
The descent goes easily with no special challenges. The final section before the road may have a lot of sharp berry vines, so bring a machete and pants.
Exit
Hike east along R39 back to your vehicle.
