Introduction[edit]
Bobcat is a short canyon route with some ok, but not exceptionally memorable rappels. The approach and return are reasonable and straightforward.
Approach[edit]
Park at the Devil's Kitchen Trailhead.
From the Devil's Kitchen Trailhead Parking, hike 15 min on the Devil's Kitchen / Old Gordon Trail to the intersection with the Echo Canyon Trail. Continue uphill on the Old Gordon Trail to (39.01666, -108.63201), depart the trail and head Northwest to the top of the Bobcat drainage.
Descent[edit]
R1: 55' from a rock or tree DCR for a two stage rappel. The first lip is an awkward start and the rappel is overgrown.
R2: 35' (DC) from a tree DCR or downclimb DCR
R3: 85' from a tree in Canyon Center, then DC DCL
R4: 60' from a tree DCR or end the canyon following a use trail DCL at the top of R4, which heads toward the Devil's Kitchen.
Exit[edit]
Boulder hop until the wash opens up and intersects the Devil's Kitchen Trail. Follow this back to the parking lot.
Red tape[edit]
A National Park's pass or a Colorado National Monument entrance fee is required
