Introduction[edit]
Located Off West Buzzard Ridge is a short, but sweet "gully-style" canyon with a handful of rappels. The price for admission is a long and engaging exit through the upper reaches of West Fork. Although we pioneered a new exit that does not require a shuttle, an even shorter exit would provide a better pay to play ratio. Ideal for rugged adventurers craving a full day wilderness experience.
Approach[edit]
Start at Buzzard Tank and work your way down into the main drainage.
Descent[edit]
5 Rappels up to 175'. No wetsuit required.
Exit[edit]
Follow Westfork to the shuttle parking... or take Buzzard Spring Canyon back up to Buzzard Ridge.
Catclaw sneak exit: prior to a mandatory swim (wade possibly in fall), take the break in the spire exit hiker's left of the drainage. Take this break to follow a game trail that meanders through the rock until you are on soil and can see to the upper reaches of the hills. Follow the ridgeline, careful of the dead trees and pushing through the brush. You will come to a section where the soil begins to break loose. You can then choose to enter the bottom of the drainage easily visible on the right for better footing or stay high left on your exit. Note: If the slope hits a 60% angle and footing gets challenging, meander and find a better use trail upwards. While not pleasant, it is quicker.
