From ropewiki.com
Ghosting is the craft of descending technical canyons while leaving nothing behind. Parts of the craft include aggressive downclimbing, partner-capture techniques, shallow-water jumps, plus anchor techniques that leave no webbing or other human stuff behind. Ghosting is done to minimize the litter left behind in canyons, to minimize the anchor resources used up on a descent, to leave the canyon in a natural condition so others may enjoy a first-descent-like experience, and to add additional challenge to the descent. In places, ghosting techniques are the fastest and most secure way to get an anchor.
