Introduction[edit]
Cesario Canyon is one drainage west of Toypurina. It has a similar feel to Toypurina, Rocket's Red Glare Gulch, and Deer Spring Canyon and shares options for approaches and exits with these other canyons.
Approach[edit]
Follow the trail from either the Hidden Springs Picnic Site or the classic Fall Creek fire road. The Toypurina beta has a good track. As of 2025, the previously neglected portion of the trail has been subjected to rigorous maintenance and is now easy to follow. A way to spice up the approach is rappel down to the Big Tujunga River via one of the many short drainages that descend from the road to the canyon floor.
Descent[edit]
The descent is largely free of brush and may have some trickling water beginning partway down. It starts off with some fun downclimbs on solid rock that could be rappelled. Then the mandatory rappels start:
R1: 50' -- tree DCR
R2: 20' -- bush DCL
R3: 30' -- bush DCL
R4: 140' -- bush DCL. This is the money rappel with a beautiful shaded stance at the anchor and a great view up and down the Big Tujunga drainage.
Exit[edit]
Walk downstream along the Big Tujunga River back to the fire road or upstream through the Narrows. Going through the Narrows is more fun and is a wonderful way to end the day if it's a hot one.
