"Interesting day in Chemica. The flow was high and the 3rd rappel was pretty punishing. We set a guide line on this one and skipped the lower section. |

Introduction
A small drainage of the Rio Toro near the Toro Hydroelectric #3 plant. This is an option if there is rain in the area, but it can still develop a lot of flow after long periods of precipitation.
Using a local guide to run this canyon is essential as you are entering property owned by the electric utility.
Approach
Park at the gate then hike in from there.
Descent
There are six rappels in this canyon. The first three end at the gated road that you hike in on and this can be a stopping point. The last three rappels drop to the Rio Toro which has to be crossed on the hike out.
Exit
From the bridge hike uphill to the gate and your car. From the Rio Toro hike upstream to the hydroelectric plant then up the road to your right.
Red tape
This is on property owned by ICE (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad) and you should only enter the area with guides that are familiar with the restrictions of the area.
