Introduction[edit]
Chifloncito is an impressive gorge with large pools, considerable flow, and very cold water. Confidence in setting up retrievable traverse lines is required. This is also the exit for Chiflon Integral, Medio Chiflon, Monroy, and Sendero de Kevin.
Approach[edit]
The approach to Chifloncito is a short hike from the roadside stand. Follow the tourist hiking trail DCR past the main waterfall. After crossing the creek, DCL follows a primitive trail adjacent to the creek. Around 1/3 of a mile, there’s low fifth-class climbing up exposed tree roots. At 0.4 miles, there is a steel cable DCL to protect hikers from the exposed right side that drops into the creek. The approach hike took 20 minutes to reach two bolts for a traverse line to the anchor.
Descent[edit]
R1 two bolts DCL 60 feet but 80 feet total, accounting for the traverse line
R2 several bolts DCL for a traverse line to the anchor (two bolts) to avoid the flow 20 feet into a large pool
R3 two bolts DCR above the waterfall 30 feet
After R3, there are several significant downclimbs through multiple flowing cascades.
R4 at the final waterfall 15 feet anchored off a tree DLC
Exit[edit]
Walk past the main waterfall, return to your vehicle, or stop at the roadside shop for freshly fried fish and snacks.
