Introduction[edit]

A super short, but scenic canyon in the Mesquite Flat area of the Superstition Mountains with one short rappel, a few downclimbs, and a brief section of narrows.

From Tortilla Flat, drive 1.1 miles to a pullout/camping area on the left.

Approach[edit]

From the parking area, hike north to cross the wash and locate the rough, rocky road that continues on the other side. Very soon after leaving the wash the road splits in a Y, take the right branch to continue on the main road. Follow the road north for about 1 mile, then leave the road and cut across a few minor drainages heading east until you reach a saddle above Dionysus.

Descent[edit]

Head down canyon navigating some light brush and shallow pools.

R1: 15’ off a rock pinch, or challenging downclimb.

The canyon will continue to narrow and soon slots up. Downclimb/stem into or over a few deep pools. As the narrows end, Damocles will enter from the right, and one final 30’ swim guards the exit.

Exit[edit]

Following the wash once the canyon opens will take you back to the wash you crossed to get to the road on the approach - and the parking area.
