Introduction[edit]
Fire Ravine is not dis-similar to the slabby and open Eurobin Falls. It does feature a singificant increase in abseils, but much less water and swimming. In most conditions it is possible to complete the whole trip with only a few wades.
Approach[edit]
The jury is out as to the best route. Most will get to clearing in the low saddle between Fire Ravine and Running Jump by one of two ways; 1) following the ski track along the moor, then cutting through 50m of scrub to the saddle. 2) Linking up clearings on the way down from the Horn track. Both have significant scrub. If this was hard/or took more than 30min then strongly consider turning around now, as the rest will get much harder. The way down from the saddle twists beside the growing creek, through thickets of Rubus parvifolius (native raspberry).
Descent[edit]
Whilst approaching the first abseil, the ravine steepens. There are approx 20 drops to navigate, some of which can be done via downclimbing and a lot via abseiling.
Exit[edit]
Either follow the creek down or climb up Goldie spur to the track.
One way shuttle takes 1.6 hrs. Alternatively walk/ride up goldie spur and climb up the south wall of Mt Buffalo to the West Wall track.
