Introduction[edit]
If you're looking for a "new" section of granite to explore, here you go. Adjacent to Fort Creek and Fortknocker Falls (to the west), it's a great day out with some spectacular views.
Approach[edit]
Parking at the Peak View Trailhead, you will begin to hike to the east along some bike paths until you connect with the Jacob's Ladder trail (towards Lone Peak). At the junction with the 2nd Hamongog Trail you will continue east, crossing over some very small drainages/flow until you reach Fortnite.
Descent[edit]
The descent is somewhat uneventful for the first 1/2, as you come across low-angle granite slabs, allowing you to bypass the flow and downclimb through the section.
Later on you will come across "three falls", also downclimbable, until you reach the vertical section with some rappels.
R1: 60' from webbing/tree DCR
R2: 40' from a tree DCL (toggle)
R3: 100' from a tree at the top of the flow (toggle)
After the final rappel, pack up your gear and find the path of least resistance as you make your way down to the bridge/path.
Exit[edit]
Once you're on the 3 Falls Trail, hike east past Fortknocker and Fort Creek to return to your shuttle car.
- You could also hike west back to your starting point (if you wanted to get in more mileage).
