"A few shallow, avoidable pools. Road was dry and in good condition but high clearance was helpful in a few places. Very scenic area.

Introduction[edit]

Great little canyon in the Virgin River Gorge area! Makes a nice day of Canyoneering in combination with Cherry Canyon.

Approach[edit]

Coming from Las Vegas: Take the I-15 North and exit "Cedar Pocket" (Virgin River Gorge Recreation Area, Exit 18). Make a left and start driving up the dirt road. High clearance vehicle is mandatory. Possibly 4x4 necessary after rain. After approximately 10-15min drive there will be a small parking bay on the left side of the road. The canyon drop in is immediately after that on the right.

Descent[edit]

The canyon has a couple down climbs and 3 rappels. The second one being the tallest and most scenic. All 3 rappels are bolted with big bolts and chains. Rap 1: 40' bolts canyon right. Rap 2: 80' bolts canyon right. Rap 3: 30' bolts canyon right.

Exit[edit]

After the last rappel follow the canyon down until you see a small foot path on the right. It zigzags up the hill (be careful to stay on the path and not destroy the cryptobiotic soil). The trail winds uphill, along the cliff and opens up a great view of the 2nd rappel. Shortly after that the trail will meet the road and you will see your car.
