Accounts[edit]
After his friends backed out of the trip due to flow being above their comfort levels, Ryan Wardwell decided to descend the canyon solo. He ended up being unable to escape the eddy after the toilet bowl leaving him stranded for 3 days until search and rescue finally got to him. He sustained minor injuries and was very hypothermic according to several news articles. Lesson here is to not descend advanced canyons on your own. Canyoneering is a team sport and if Ryan would’ve been with a strong team, he would not have needed rescue.
