"Lots of logs in the canyon from heavy rains back in Feb 2025. Bridge repairs & road upgrade is near completion.

Introduction[edit]

Best at 1m on the Wilson River Avenel guage. Open canyon (but lots of logs at the time of writting) with good features. The bridge is not open after repairs where the car is to be left at the time of writing. When the road is open a car shuffle will be posible.

Approach[edit]

Leave car a Wilson River Picnic area and hike up firetrail to start of Kippara uless the road is open. (Dec 2025 road bridge was closed at the Wilson River picnic area.)

    1, 25m Tree sling river left

    2, 25m Tree sling river right

    3, scramble river right 15m

    4. 60m single bolt river right down sloping cascade

    5, 40m The Slot river left. Take care or use handline on sloping rock to double bolts on river left across creek (can be under silt at times).

    6, 100m Double pitch each. 50m P1 double bolts river left in flow. 50m P2 double bolts river right to pool.

    7, 2m jump from overpass log leaning onto the old rock jump

    8, 3m jump from sloping rock.

    Abseils could be bypassed if required in Kippara.

    Rock hop down to Banda Creek before exiting via Wilson river.

    Exit Banda Banda Creek then river walk/rock hop down stream Wilson River 1.3km to carpark.
