Introduction[edit]

  • Maglia could be closed for the indefinite future due to rock fall obstructing the best parts of the canyon (As of 2020)*

One of the best canyons in Europe. Incredibly beautiful scenery, gorgeous blue water, and unending jumps and toboggans. It even has a short and dark cave section to rappel through. Excellent anchor placement and very heavy duty hardware. Note that there is heavy traffic with local guides and customers.

Approach[edit]

Leave your car at one of the many parking spaces at the old turnout that crosses over the Maglia stream at 43.953516, 7.518832. Note that you will not descend all the way to here in the watercourse when you finish the canyon, but will exit the canyon further upstream. On the north side of this road turnout, across from a water fountain, you will find a footpath marked to La Maglia. Follow this well-marked path for 1.5 hours until it finally crosses the Maglia watercourse. This path is also in Google Maps. Suit up at the concrete bridge where it crosses the Maglia stream.

Note: if you have a second vehicle, you can shuttle up the road on the south side of the drainage, parking at the top of a trail about 10 minute walk down to the watercourse. But leave absolutely nothing visible or of value in your car or trunk -- many break-ins occur here because the thieves know that people are away for many hours in the canyon.

Descent[edit]

The canyon begins with many small and beautiful jumps, and gradually gets more scenic and beautiful. Each rappel station is marked with a number, counting down from 20 to 1 for the final rappel.

Exit[edit]

At the final rappel / jump into a pool, there is a clearly marked "Sortie" sign (meaning 'exit') that leads back to the approach trail and back to your car.
