Introduction[edit]

Approach[edit]

The approach I used – dotted in red.

Descent[edit]

Rope lengths were estimated, from the length of my rope and arm span. I did this in winter so the water was mostly frozen. You might be able to downclimb more in summer.

  • P1 opt 16m
  • P2 5m
  • P3 10m
  • P4 opt ~10m climable
  • P5 16m
  • P6 7m
  • P7 15m
  • P8 18m
  • P9 4m climable
  • P10 10m
  • P11 5m
  • P12 9m
  • P13 5m

Note that the local guiding company's site claims that there are 8 abseils. I think they don't do the lower constriction. "The trip features a moderate-difficult approach hike of approximately 2 hours with an elevation gain of about 480m and requires a good level of physical fitness. Once you reach the canyon there are eight rappels and many more supported maneuvers with the longest rappel being approximately 20 meters."

Exit[edit]

After the canyon finishes, follow the creek down. Soon you will cross the Overlander Track. It should be well marked by cairns. Follow this north (right), you will end up back at the TH where you started.

Red tape[edit]

You are in Jasper National Park and will need a national park pass to access this area.
