Introduction
A short, rugged canyon with a couple big rappels and nice scenery.
Approach
Follow road system per KML track. Nearly entire approach is on road / trail. As road terminates, the walls of Orthrus come into view. Hike down along faint trail a short distance to the drainage entry point.
Descent
R1: 110’ off tree into a nice free hanging rappel. Recommend longer pull rope / cord for smoother retrieval.
R2: 100’ off bush RDC. Watch for loose rock while on rappel.
A few downclimbs will lead you to the canyon bottom where the walls briefly narrow.
Exit
Scramble up out of the drainage RDC. Traverse along the scree, passing a few shallow gullies and heading for a saddle that overlooks Warm Creek. Follow game trails up a steep but short ridge to an old mining road. Follow the road as it contours around the hillside and connects with the approach road you took earlier in the day.

Background
Naming inspired by neighboring Griffin Canyon. In Greek mythology, Orthrus was a two-headed guard dog that was slain by Hercules.
