Introduction[edit]

Spectacular hike along a majestic canyon that extends all the way to the Colorado river. Can be done as a one-way route (shuttle required) or as an out-and-back adventure.

Flash Flood Risk[edit]

This canyon has a massive watershed. Water can be funneled from miles away into this canyon. You have to monitor forecasts for a large area. This site has some good maps that show the relevant watershed in which to monitor forecast for: https://dreamlandtours.net/buckskin-gulch-flash-floods

Approach[edit]

Two main starting points exist. One from White House, the other from Wire Pass. White House is shorter and probably easier. Wire Pass is via Buckskin Gulch and adds miles, expect more obstacles. Both White House and Buckskin Gulch are narrow slot canyons. The map reflects the White House approach and the points of interest with mile markers reflect that starting point.

Descent[edit]

Exit[edit]

Red tape[edit]

Permits are required for both day-use and overnight trips. Permits, especially for overnighters, may be difficult to obtain. INFO: https://www.blm.gov/programs/recreation/permits-and-passes/lotteries-and-permit-systems/arizona/paria-canyon
