Introduction[edit]

This route is an adventure hike. The route tours the area. The Kanab Dinosaur Tracks is a worth while viewing. The route ascends to the mesa and then descends to an advance overhang first rappel. Please protect the cryptobiotic soil

Approach[edit]

This route climbs through cliff bands up to the dinosaur tracks. There is also a trail from the Port of Entry parking that would be an easier route to the dinosaur tracks. After the Dinosaur tracks ascend towards the mesa top. Navigate through the cliff bands. There is a jeep trail at the top. Descend down to R1.

Descent[edit]

It is recommended to ghost all the drops to avoid leaving webbing or creating rope grooves on pull. The rock here is very soft.

  • R1: 120ft off a tree: Advanced overhung free hanging rappel into an alcove. Hard start over a lip straight into a free hang. (Cliffaneering). Not for beginners. This rappel can be skipped. However, it is great to hang and take in the views. Below R1, stay in the water course. If you skip R1, you can traverse over to R2 using good practices for protecting the cryptobiotic soil
  • R2: 40ft from a bush in the water course. Can probably be downclimbed.
  • R3: 30ft from a tree down a pretty chute.
  • R4: 100ft from a tree past a nice alcove, partly free-hanging.
  • R5: 25ft from a tree

Continue bouldering down the watercourse until you reach a trail.

Exit[edit]

Follow the trail back to your car.

Red tape[edit]

Stay on the exit trail near the cliffs and avoid disturbing folks renting the yurts behind the Nomad Cafe.
