Introduction[edit]

Easy approach, stemming, silo crossings, exit up a pristine spring-fed creek with narrows, a waterfall cavern, an archeological site with ruins and tools, and a bonus canyon on the exit hike. It's hard not to give this one 5-stars. NOTE: the track above with a long exit hike and shuttle is unnecessary. On the exit up 40 Mile Canyon, just past the waterfall cavern on the right after the canyon becomes dry, exit up North Fork directly with a couple up-climbs, or hike up the rim of North Fork directly back to the vehicle. This will save 2-3 hours. The best part of 40 Mile is between Short Fork and North Fork.

Approach[edit]

Descent[edit]

Two required rappels, one at the end of the slot is a 2-stage 140 feet from sandtrap, one is 60 feet from boulder into 40 Mile. The first rappel is best done as a 2-stage. Not advisable to break up into 2 rappels as the second rappel would be a hanging sandtrap and create a pull issue.
