Introduction

A side-canyon of Tuckup, within the Redwall Limestone layer, typically visited on a 3-4 day loop of: Hades Knoll - Tuckup Mauv - Colorado River - Tuckup Mauv - Dome Pocket - Rocky Point - Tuckup Redwall - Tuckup Supai. Rocky Point has some nice coloured corridors, it's a nicer slot than its neighbour Dome Pocket, while Dome Pocket is a higher technical challenge.

Approach

Can be accessed from above or below:

  • Above = Tuckup trail, then walk down the drainage through the Suapi layer.
  • Below = In Tuckup, maybe half a mile up-canyon from the Rocky Point junction, you can walk out to the west, then follow the bench around to the head of Rocky Point Canyon (35-40 mins).

Descent

4-6 rappels, the first 2 drops can be climbed down/around.

Exit

Walk up Tuckup with a couple of climbs in the Redwall Limestone past chockstones - difficulty is dependent on how much of the floor has been scoured away under the chockstones.

Red tape

Within Grand Canyon National Park. A permit is required at all times. For overnight stays- Use Area LB9.

Also, on the Kanab plateau, an America The Beautiful annual pass is required to enter the park boundary.
