Introduction[edit]
The classic Silver Lake hike up American Fork Canyon, with a little flare. Might as well pack some gear and have a little excitement along the way.
Approach[edit]
Hike to Silver Lake on the trail. Self explanatory. Then when you get to the lake go left to the drainage.
Descent[edit]
The only worthwhile part of all of this is the first rappel (150').
There is some webbing up top for the rappel that will put you directly in the flow. With lots of branches/rocks to snag a fiddle, webbing was placed for an easy pull-through.
r1: 150' to bottom OR broken up to 120' and 30'.
The best option after this is to hike back up to the lake, repeat, chill, swim, picnic, and otherwise have a chill outing. But if you insist on going down the creek, be ready for THICK vegetation.
By continuing down you will come to a series of falls you saw on the hike up (30' downclimb) and then a 30' rappel. This ends right at a trail switchback and is a great place to exit.
If you go a little further down, there are a series of downclimbs with some decent flow, also avoidable on either side. This ends about 200' above another switchback (where you cross the trail on the hike up).
Exit[edit]
Rejoin with the trail and return to the parking lot.
Red tape[edit]
