Introduction[edit]
super fun C canyon with 10+ jumps, one sweet toboggan and beautiful blue-green water. gorgeous scenery throughout with several deep sections. does have a lot of trash though.
Approach[edit]
leave a shuttle vehicle at Balneario Nuevo Chapultepec (50 pesos for day use) and drive up to drop-in parking. backtrack up road from parking, looking for road on left after 100 m or so. follow this road down and leave it to the right before reaching the orchards. bushwack down to the river, avoiding nasty thorny tangles when possible. you'll probably come out at an impressive (and sad) pile of plastic bottles.
Descent[edit]
follow the river bed down, checking depths and jumping where desired. the first major, unavoidable drop is maybe 17 m and many will want to rap this from a 2-bolt station RDC. you can also downclimb RDC to a jumping spot, though the edge is sloped and you have to jump out not to hit the bottom of the cliff. several jumps follow, some of which can be downclimbed or avoided. it's nice to have someone who's done the canyon with you before so they can tell you where to jump. the ~15 m toboggan is lined with big green algae and, though bumpy, is smoother and way more fun than it looks. just go for it! alternatively, could jump this from LDC but the traverse to the jumping spot would be sketchy if wet. continue jumping and downclimbing till you get to the big 18 m jump, which is optional with downclimb LDC but fun and you don't have to jump out at all.
Exit[edit]
after the big pool look for a well traveled trail RDC, which winds around, crossing the river once. eventually you get to the paved part as you near the Balneario.
Red tape[edit]
the approach is ejido land, I believe. if you see anyone, ask them if it's ok to go down to the river there (learn spanish first). although it may be possible to climb back up to the road, the easiest exit is owned by the owner of the Balneario. please respect this and pay them the 50 pesos day-use fee if you are parking there.
