So how was Clark? -CL
Hey! It was a blast. I've been looking forward to running it for the past year after reading your description and seeing your pictures. It must have been a monster of a first descent. Looking forward to doing some other long canyons nearby like Iron Fork and Fish Fork later this season.
I'm glad it was fun, and glad someone else ran it. Been wanting to get back there and see it during the day, as we did most of it at night. You didn't happen to run across a rope bag did you? haha. What's crazy is that you ran it solo??!! estunum (talk) 11:49, 5 May 2021 (EDT)
I didn't see a rope bag; which rap was it near? Guess there's an interesting story behind that! The only evidence of your party that I saw was a scrap of webbing. I love canyoneering with friends but Clark seemed so long and yet not very technical that it was fun going solo. A bonus is that when the going gets tough, like with all the debris low down in the canyon, I don't get stressed out feeling that I'm inflicting this pain on others. Haha
Don’t remember exactly, but it was one that sloped, I think. It’s long gone, just thought I’d ask. No cool story, I just forgot it at the top since the rope was all out. We didn’t have any debris at the bottom like you reported, so maybe we got the best of it. I do remember A LOT of trees, but nothing was really fallen. Maybe it’s like Falls of the Fox now? That place is a constant obstacle course haha. The San Gabriela May seem tapped out, but there’s first descents still out there. They have remained so because it isn’t normal into inflict so much suffering on yourself willingly. estunum (talk) 01:31, 6 May 2021 (EDT)
The section downstream of the money rap did remind me a bit of Great Falls of the Fox, only steeper and composed more of small dead branches rather than big logs. Interesting that it's changed so much. Got any particular unexplored areas in the San Gabriels you have your eye on to check out? Jcsjcs (talk) 10:37, 6 May 2021 (EDT)
Nothing too specific, just areas. Next to Clark actually, I would like to explore Falls Gulch from the top. Probably same approach and exit as Clark. There's one called Bear Creek, can't remember where. I think the ones that really interest me are over by San Jacinto, but land access is a pain over there. It's hard getting a crew willing to suffer for no good reason :P If you're ever short of bodies, I'd be glad to join if I'm available. estunum (talk) 16:04, 6 May 2021 (EDT)
Falls Gulch looks not as overgrown as Clark on Google Earth. Hard for me to tell if it has any technical features, though. I'll shoot you a friend request on Facebook! Jcsjcs (talk) 00:41, 7 May 2021 (EDT)
