Introduction[edit]
The Snake Canyon via ferrata, located in the rugged Wadi Bani Awf area, was closed primarily due to safety issues arising from inadequate maintenance. By around 2012, the route had developed significant structural problems, including corroded and loose bolts that compromised the integrity of the safety features, such as the zip-lines and iron steps, making it hazardous for climbers. Reports indicated that the government removed key zip-lines to prevent access, addressing concerns over the risk of serious accidents on this deteriorated route. Consequently, the via ferrata has remained off-limits.
The ferrata has been dismantled at the start of the 1st and 4th zip lines and is not feasible at present as of March 1, 2016
