Introduction[edit]

AS OF SEPTEMBER 2019, THIS VIA FERRATA IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED AND HAS BEEN DISMANTLED.

https://www.lavanguardia.com/local/catalunya/20190925/47627822849/desmantelan-via-ferrata-teresina-montserrat-mas-antigua-catalunya-ruta-rescates-seguridad.html

At the time it was built (1993), there were very few other via ferratas in existence and this stood out as a very good one. However it does not compare well to modern via ferratas. It has several sections of climbing up eroded dirt gullies, in places where having a ferrata route up the adjacent rock wall would have been ideal. The route in these areas is not marked well, and you might wonder if you are on the correct path as you pull yourself up tree roots and have dirt push out from under your feet until you finally reach the cable again.

The view from the top lookout platform (named Sant Jeroni) is outstanding however.

As of Sep 2018, this via ferrata is closed due to repairs on the safety cable. If you do choose to climb it before it is reopened, you may find a section towards the end where the safety cable is replaced with webbing. There is huge exposure at this point. Try to use this webbing only for balance and do not pull too hard on it and carefully get past this section. Other than this one section, the safety cable was good along the entire route.

Approach[edit]

Park at the parking lot for Santa Cecilia. The path up the hillside starts directly across from the west side of the parking lot at 41.61095, 1.81675. From here you can navigate to the start on Google Maps to the point named 'Via Ferrata la Teresina', at 41.60671, 1.81337.

Descent[edit]

You want to take the Canal Sant Jeroni drainage back down to the car. From the Sant Jeroni lookout, take the concrete sidewalk down towards the power lines that go down the the next drainage over from the one you came up on the via ferrata. The path down goes directly underneath these power lines.
