Introduction[edit]
A pretty canyon, just half-day loop from Cathedral Reserve campground. The canyon was once popular, with seemingly Victorian era steps cut into the rock to avoid one of the pools. Always difficult to know how often a canyon is visited, you'd think this would be infrequent, but 3 separate groups were in the canyon on Sat 3 Feb 2024.
Approach[edit]
From Cathedral Reserve campground, walk up to Beowang Rd and follow it to the end, then skirt the final property on the left outside of the private property boundary.
Alternatively, walk down the happy valley track taking the right fork, towards cathedral creek. Just past the cathedral creek crossing Head off track and carefully make your way up stream to the next tributary. Follow the nose down and abseil in near the junction.
Descent[edit]
There are swimming pools, but you can keep to waist deep if you're careful and select the best side of each drop to descend.
Exit[edit]
Up steep dirt slopes to the Mt Irvine Road. You may find an old walking track zig-zagging up.
